Working on a redesign... please bear with me :) |

As you can see, snipe.net is (mostly) down at the moment. I am working on a new redesign, at which point all of the content will be back - and I may even add some new stuff. I have been entrenched in a massive server migration, which has taken up a ton of my time and caused me no end of headaches. We're almost done getting everything exactly the way we want it, but it's been a long ugly road. Praise jebus for Josh at Binary Tribe for all of his hard work and help. There is no way I could have done this without him. In the meantime, please bear with me, stop by my LiveJournal (I don't talk about my sex life or what my cat is doing), and for god's sakes if you have any idea what Apache 2's goofy character encoding deal is, please tell me. (I already changed the DefaultCharset in the httpd.config, but I am still running into weirdness.) In the meantime, things may look funny around here, and urls may change often as I continue to experiment a bit. Just hang in there, and all will be right with the world (or at least this site) again soon. As you can also see, I have moved away from the Mambo content management system, for a variety of reasons, really - the first of which being that Mambo/Joomla is so freaking mysql intensive. I have the balls on the server to spare, but I just don't see any reason to query a database 1000 times for one page unless something really amazing is happening on that page. The second reason is that the admin interface for Mambo is a nightmare. While it's very glossy, the learning curve is extremely high, and if you're not using it every day, it's easy to forget how things work. Another example of an open source project that was clearly developed by programmers without any input from interface designers (or the end users). Website Baker, on the other hand, is simply loverly. Its as basic as it gets, if that's what you need it to be, but it also lets you easily build modules to do just about anything you want if you have a decent working knowledge of PHP. There aren't that many slick modules for WB just yet, but the community is picking up steam. Plus if there's something you really want, you can always write it yourself. I may be releasing a few mods here, since there are a few I have to develop anyway. Stop by the website and check it out.
