Smart News Discovery on iOS with Zite

S

Zite is hands-down my favorite news reader for iOS. Similar to Flipboard, it takes links that I’d already be viewing and formats them in an easy-to-digest way – but Zite goes a little further and learns as you interact.

As you read stories on Zite, you have the option of liking or disliking the article you’re reading. This isn’t a Facebook like, it’s not published anywhere – but it helps Zite understand the kinds of news and links (out of the giant sea of news and links you’re following) that are truly most interesting and relevant to you.

I have found news that I would otherwise not have come across through my own curated collections, and the interface is beautiful and easy to use. Zite makes discovering news I actually care about seem effortless.

It has built-in integration with Instapaper, Delicious, and Evernote so saving links for later is a breeze. It also lets you easily share the link with Facebook and Twitter.

My only suggestions for improvement for Zite would be to have a richer Facebook integration, where I can post links to pages or send via Facebook message instead of just posting to my wall, and I wish they’d remove the unnecessary “@zite” reply in the tweet text. It’s easily removed, so it’s not that big of a deal, but every character counts when you only get 140!

Zite is a little less sexy than Flipboard, but I personally like it partly for that reason. It also doesn’t aggregate links from people you follow on Twitter, which is alright by me as well, since I follow so many people, I’d never get through all of the links.

Zite doesn’t try to deliver every link from every source. It works to combat information overload by learning what is most valuable and useful to you, and give you best of the best from there.

Zite works for iOS and webOS – and it’s free! Download Zite for iOS or visit their website.
