Alison – I would be exporting the WP XML file and then re-importing it. However, I've switched off the plugins that aren't directly needed (including one for caching) and the site seems to work a great deal better. I've also repaired and optimised the DB.

I think it's code for me not really wanting to wipe & start again from reinstall!

Alison - my site was pwned a couple of months ago in the major WP hack re permalinks etc.

Long story short I probably need to do a clean install of WP, having wiped the database and started again. I'm thinking the best way is to
- note my WP plugins
- do a WP export,
- delete the database (ISP has Fantastico deluxe),
- install a fresh copy of mySQL
- install fresh copy of WP
- do a WP import
- reinstall various plugins

My question to you is about Disqus. If I delete the blog and reinstall it, how does Disqus know to put the right comments back on the right posts? There doesn't seem to be anything on the Disqus help section that refers (or am I missing something?)

I'm also thinking that most of my users are probably spammers or hackers, and the reinstall will delete these folk from my setup...?
