This really struck a chord with me. I originally started following you on twitter because of a half-convo I saw. I had been to your site before (while, surprise! surprise! looking up Mosso info).

If the @reply system was working how it is now, I probably never would have started following you, which would suck as your tweets are awesome and you've learned me up on stuff.

I think this is a great way to make it seem less scary to the general public:

"Why not call the three different modes more straight-forward things like 'Quiet' 'Standard' and 'Noisy'?"

Also some of their documentation is also a bit off-putting to the general public.

No need to apologize. I've got thicker skin than that. The ability to say my own piece is all I need.

I totally get how your use has been screwed over, though. If there were anything I could do that would make Twitter give you back the choice to use it how you want, I would.

Sorry, augmentedfourth, I didn't mean to offend. I also didn't really mean to imply that all geeks want to see all @replies. What I meant was that, as a group, geeks tend to want to get as much information as possible. It's (at least to my mind) part of the defining mentality of geek culture. We like to know stuff. Does that mean that an individual geek will always want to know everything about everything? Of course not. We can choose to limit our information streams--we have to, in fact! There's just too much otherwise.

The point I was trying to make was that I think that mentality is the reason why so many Twitterers were so upset over the policy change. If I choose not to pursue some amount of data, well that's fine. But when someone else tells me "hey, you know all this information is here and you could be having it, but we're not gonna let you. Nyah nyah," it just offends something deep in my core.
