Keep in mind that the one I picked ALSO functions as a shoulder-strap bag. The ability to switch back and forth was one of the things I liked best about it.

I looked at some of the options you linked to, and I agree is a Chanel A01112 great site. They even have a “find which bags fit my laptop” search feature… nicely programmed. Anyway, I went to my local Staples office supply store, and they have a new set of backpacks from SwissGear. I brought the MacBook in with me, and the only one that fit was the model called Pegasus. It fit the 17″ easily (in fact, with probably another inch to spare), and the rest of it is organized well, and it looks decent, too. (Some of the models look very busy — I'm not an outdoorsman and I'm 20 years out of college, so perhaps I need some maturity?) Good fabric choices, excellent zippers (I hate sticky zippers), good pockets. The only thing I didn't care for was the strap and clasp to clip the two shoulder straps together across the chest. I'm not going on a 5-mile hike, just walking from car to office or client. But I can always rip out the stiches, cut that off, and stick it in a drawer. Their Web site…
